The exhibition brings together a selection of photographs in which interiors, structures, bodies and objects establish a precise relationship with space. Windows, staircases, columns, rooms and domestic elements reveal an architectural dimension that runs consistently through Mapplethorpe’s practice, where framing, proportion, light and emptiness shape the construction of each image. The selection includes photographs of interiors and architecture alongside portraits and compositions in which the body is defined through its relationship with its surroundings.

The project will feature an installation by Agustin Perez-Torres, Partner at BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, the internationally renowned architecture practice, who will contribute an architectural perspective to the spatial development of the exhibition. This dialogue between photography and architecture considers the exhibition space as an active part of the experience and invites reflection on how the places we construct shape the ways in which we look, move and relate to one another.

The exhibition is presented within the framework of Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture, a context that extends this reflection on architecture as a discipline closely connected to everyday experience, ways of inhabiting space and our relationship with the built environment.
