1949, Valencia, Spain.
Works and lives in New York City.
Elena del Rivero has dedicated her work to the study of various written and visual forms to communicate personal experiences with an emphasis on the epistolary format. Born in Valencia, Spain, she has lived in New York since 1991. Her focus is painting and working on paper, but she has also produced large-scale installations and performances with an interest in printmaking and analogue photography. Her projects develop gradually and do not always have predictable endings. Del Rivero is inspired by what she has at hand, in historical events that she has witnessed and in everyday life with her multiple symbolic references. She contemplates a utopian idea of reparative action that she undertakes whenever the opportunity presents itself when the works are damaged, intentionally or not, during the production process; in this way she metaphorically sutures her "wounds".
