The artist Jordi Bernadó presents ME WE at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, an unprecedented celebration with a very special protagonist: Barcelona. The Liceu opens its doors to an artistic collaboration of great impact, made by and for the city.
On the 26th of June 2022, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the artist Jordi Bernadó sets himself a unique challenge: to photograph the identity of the city of Barcelona. And, more importantly, to highlight the bonds that sustain it. Inspired by scientific methods, but not limited to them, the artist carries out a demoscopic investigation of Barcelona. During the year prior to the photograph, he explores different variables to compose a human cartography of the city. Its communities, nationalities, genders, ethnicities, ideologies, sexualities, ages, social classes, among others.
2,292 identities that make up a unique, rich and inclusive identity. On stage, all alone, a photographer. Bernadó will capture this unprecedented celebration. He will be the only witness to the Liceu’s most paradoxical performance: 2,292 protagonists, 1 spectator.
The resulting photograph is valuable not only for what it shows, but also for everything it conceals. The invisible bonds that weave together the lives of those portrayed. ME WE is not just a photograph, it is the previous process, the months of searching for the 2,292 people, the energy that will flood the Liceu on the 26th of June. The desire to meet, to build together, to celebrate cultural richness and diversity. ME WE are the stories that simmer in Barcelona, the stories that make Barcelona an open and inclusive city. At an uncertain time, this action reminds us that there is much more that unites us than separates us. And that we are always, despite everything, capable of finding places where we can meet. The photograph of the 26th of June 2022, in the auditorium of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, is just a reflection of this reality. A testimony of Barcelona’s identity. A mirror with a thousand faces.
We invite you to participate in this project.
