On 30 September, Fundaci\u00f3n SOLO and Galeria SENDA present Hybrid Creatures<\/em>, a group exhibition at Movimiento 37 bringing together works by Gonzalo Guzm\u00e1n, Sandra V\u00e1squez de la Horra and Evru\/Zush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition unfolds through three artistic universes in which forms remain in a continuous state of transformation. Through sculpture, drawing and the creation of symbolic systems, the artists question the boundaries separating the human from the animal, the organic from the artificial, material experience from dreams, and reality from imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title of the exhibition refers to a long history of images shaped by mixture, metamorphosis and displacement. In 1844, French illustrator Jean-Ignace-Isidore Grandville published Un autre monde<\/em>, a book populated by impossible beings, animated objects and creatures combining human, animal and plant-like characteristics. More than a century later, Max Ernst recognised in these illustrations a form of thought that anticipated some of the central concerns of modern art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Hybrid Creatures<\/em>, this genealogy becomes a starting point from which to consider how images continue to alter the ways in which we perceive and understand the world. Each artist approaches hybridity from a different territory: Gonzalo Guzm\u00e1n works through matter and dreams; Sandra V\u00e1squez de la Horra through the body, memory and myth; and Evru\/Zush through language and the construction of an autonomous cosmology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalo Guzm\u00e1n: sculptures born from dreams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalo Guzm\u00e1n\u2019s practice develops from images experienced during lucid dreams. The artist transfers these visions into physical space through stainless-steel sculptures that appear to exist somewhere between an unknown organism, a tool and an artefact belonging to another time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their polished surfaces reflect the architecture, the light and the movements of those who approach them. The works therefore never appear as entirely closed objects: they change according to the space they occupy and incorporate the viewer\u2019s presence into their appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solidity of metal and the instability of the reflected image coexist within these sculptures. What began as a mental experience acquires weight and volume while retaining some of the uncertainty of the dream. Their forms appear familiar and strange at the same time, like traces of a reality that has not yet been fully defined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandra V\u00e1squez de la Horra: bodies, symbols and memories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In Sandra V\u00e1squez de la Horra\u2019s drawings, the human body becomes a territory traversed by multiple forces. Her figures intertwine with animals, plants, religious symbols, intimate experiences, popular narratives and political memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anatomies appearing in her work are permeable and constantly changing. Bodies extend, fragment or merge with other species, giving rise to beings that cannot be placed within a single category. The everyday coexists with the spiritual, desire with death, and personal history with collective memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist usually works on paper, coating her drawings with a layer of wax. This process gives them a distinctive presence: the wax protects the image, intensifies its materiality and functions like a skin that preserves the different layers of time contained within each work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evru\/Zush: a territory created through language<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the work of Evru\/Zush, transformation expands to encompass an entire world. His practice is articulated around Evrugo Mental State<\/em>, an autonomous territory with its own geography, writing system, cartography, currency, anatomy, symbols and citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This mental state should not be understood merely as an imaginary place, but as a constantly expanding system. Within it, words, signs and images develop a life of their own. Language no longer simply describes reality; it becomes a tool capable of producing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creatures inhabiting this universe combine human, animal, sexual, mental and symbolic characteristics. Their identities multiply and transform within an open grammar through which Evru\/Zush presents imagination as a form of freedom and sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A space of correspondences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although their languages and processes differ, Gonzalo Guzm\u00e1n, Sandra V\u00e1squez de la Horra and Evru\/Zush share an open understanding of form. In their works, no identity remains entirely stable, and every element can come into contact with another, become contaminated by it and turn into something different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition establishes a dialogue between matter, body and language. Guzm\u00e1n\u2019s sculptures make visible the transition between the mental image and the physical object; V\u00e1squez de la Horra\u2019s drawings bring together species, symbols and memories within changing anatomies; and Evru\/Zush\u2019s universe demonstrates the capacity of language to create alternative identities and realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hybrid Creatures<\/em> invites visitors to enter a space where the archaic and the contemporary, dreams and experience, memory and invention coexist. Rather than simply presenting fantastic beings, the exhibition uses hybridity to reflect on the changing nature of images and their capacity to open up other ways of understanding and inhabiting the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
